I received a preview of the Glen Campbell – “I’ll Be Me” movie that is being released soon from Laura Beth with FlyByPromotions and was asked to watch it and give my review on it by way of blog post.

Glen Cambpell is one of those artists, that even if you didn’t like country music, you’ve heard of anyway.  His music is legendary and his name will be forever known.  Now dealing with health issues and having to be surrounded by a very strong family, his career is going to change.  This movie has some great detail of his career, life and the mark he will leave.  The story is amazing and makes you feel as if you’ve known him forever.  It’s crazy how celebrities can sometimes feel like friends, even though you’ve never met in person.

The photos and music take you back to certain places and times in your own life and it’s such a blessing to be able to see the man behind the stage in Glen Campbell’s life!  It brought tears to my eyes seeing him not remember certain things and made me think of my Grama who suffered from dementia in her later years and forgot so much.  I know for sure that the Lord gives us all of our good memories back when we finally enter in to His gates!

I would definitely recommend seeing this movie and helping to have this talented man never be something we forget!

About the Movie:

glenIn 2011, when Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he joined forces with his family to fight the biggest battle of his life. Glen and his wife, Kim, made history by going public with the diagnosis – the first time a major American celebrity would share this experience with the world. The Campbell family then embarked on a short “Goodbye Tour,” but the three-week engagement turned into an emotional and triumphant 151-show nationwide tour de force.

This epic human drama about the undying bond between Glen and Kim, and their unwavering caring for each other, chronicles a story of love, resilience and the power of song.
GLEN CAMPBELL…I’LL BE ME is the true tale of how America’s greatest country star would not give up his music or his family, against all odds.
The film features those who know and love Glen, including Bruce Springsteen, Bill Clinton, The Edge, Paul McCartney, Jay Leno, Vince Gill, Jimmy Webb, Blake Shelton, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Steve Martin, Chad Smith and Taylor Swift among many others. Rare vintage footage and extraordinary new performances of Glen’s most beloved hits immerse this moving cinematic account in the overwhelming talent of this humble family man. With joy and a tireless sense of humor, Glen and his family live each moment in the present while preparing for the future, all while playing their music to sold out venues on a star spangled voyage spanning the country from Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl.

About the Artist:

glenGlen Campbell’s musical and entertainment lifetime, covering over five decades, is unmatched for its prolific breadth, popular appeal – and flat-out musical accomplishment and achievement. His biggest run of hits (“Gentle on My Mind,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman,” “Galveston,” “Rhinestone Cowboy” and “Southern Nights” just to name a handful) put him in the pop elite of the late-‘60s and early-‘70s, erasing the line between pop and country and helping pave the way for generations of others. You could well call him the first countrypolitan star, though the sharecropper’s son from Delight, Arkansas never lost any of the pure country in his soul.
In addition to a successful solo career, Glen was also a first-call session guitarist whose picking helped shape Phil Spector’s famed “Wall of Sound” and the Beach Boys’ most creative works (the latter for whom he also became a touring member for a stretch when Brian Wilson first retired from the road in 1964).
His TV show, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, was a destination for the top artists of the era and an eye-opening look into American roots music for the mainstream. The combination of talents and personality that made him a TV star enabled him to transcend eras, remaining a hit-maker across decades as well as across genres.
In 2011, Glen released Ghost on the Canvas, a moving, engaging and inspirational song cycle that traces the arc of his remarkable life, love and faith. The album at once renewed and revitalized the spirit of classic Campbell albums and stood tall alongside them. USA Today hailed Ghost on the Canvas as “a museum- quality masterpiece,” while Rolling Stone noted: “The years have added an edge to his singing.”
Shortly after he recorded the album, Glen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Undeterred, he embarked on a series of live dates that he dubbed “The Glen Campbell Goodbye Tour.” He was honored with a star-studded tribute at the Country Music Awards in 2011 and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy Awards in 2012.

The picture of Glen looks like a rough, rugged cowboy that has seen some long time on the range! I can’t help but think country music when I see it. Alzheimer’s is such a hard disease, not just for the patient, but also for their caregiver. This looks like it will be an interesting movie.

I don’t know how popular Glen Campbell is in Europe, but I will admit I haven’t heard of him before. Well, it’s always nice to discover new things! #ibabloggers
